HOGSCAN App Tips and Tricks

HOGSCAN App Tips and Tricks

We use the HOGSCAN app primarily for managing our ride/event calendar and RSVPing for rides. It is not an official Harley-Davidson app, it was developed and is maintained by an independent software developer. Hence it costs a nominal fee ($0.99 as of July 2025) and the money goes to the developer, not to Harley-Davidson. The app uses the same backend database as the one that powers our website and emails and SMS texts, so the calendar is always in sync between the app and the website. You can RSVP on either the app or the website, but many find the app to be easier.

To get started:

1. Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play and search for HOGSCAN. The app should show up in the search results (you may have to scroll past an ad or two). The app icon should look like the one pictured here.

2. Install the app on your phone, which will involve paying for the app.

3. Open the app and select Scottsdale 3160 as your chapter. You can either scroll or enter "3160" or "Scottsdale" to find our entry in the list sooner.

4. Log in with the same username and password you use on the hog3160.org website. For new members, you should receive an email with your initial username and password. This username and password will be (or should be) different than what you use on the h-d.com website, which is a completely different system.

5. Hit the PROFILE button on the bottom and enter your ICE information. ICE stands for "In Case of Emergency", and it is good to keep that up-to-date in case something happens on a ride and the Ride Leader needs to contact that person.

That's it. Now you can use the CALENDAR button to see upcoming rides and events. Once you select a ride/event, you can use the thumbs-up button to RSVP for an event, or unRSVP for an event if your plans change. It is very much to your benefit to RSVP in case ride/event details change. Ride leaders can see who has RSVP'd, and contact them with late-breaking information. Use the double down-arrow button to expand the information that is displayed for the event (you may have to scroll to see it all). Again, this is the same info that is on the website.

Other tips and tricks:

  • As long as you don't uninstall the app, you should remain logged in, so you only have to go through the login process once
  • Only Ride Leaders can see who has RSVP'd for the ride/event before checkin. This is a privacy feature built into the app, so we can't change it. After checkin, you'll be able to see everyone else who has been checked in.
  • Ride Leaders can check you in by swiping on their HOGSCAN app, we don't have to use physical cards with QR codes. This allows us to know who the members are on a ride, and who are guests that need to sign a waiver.
  • The points shown in the HOGSCAN app are not H-D points and have nothing to do with your H-D points. They are "chapter points", which is an optional feature that we're not currently using. The default is 10 points per ride, but you don't win a prize for the most chapter points. Maybe someday...
