WhatsApp Tips and Tricks

What is WhatsApp? You can think of it as a next-generation texting. There is a WhatsApp app that you install on your phone, and you can then set up your profile. It will connect to your phone contacts, and use phone numbers to determine who among your contacts is also on WhatsApp. There probably are a bunch of folks you know who are already on WhatsApp.

At that point, it behaves very much like text messaging. You can send messages to your WhatsApp contacts. Messages are encrypted end-to-end, and it works across international boundaries. You can do more than just texting. But the big benefit to HOG3160 members comes when they join the HOG3160 WhatsApp community.

The HOG3160 WhatsApp community is limited to members only. Ask Chris (via text or email) for an invite. I don't want to post the link here since this is a public website. Although, even if someone not in our chapter gets the link, that person will be rejected upon attempting to join. Once your request to join is accepted you will be in the HOG3160 Members group, and will be able to text with all 3160ers who have joined. There is also an LOH group which is limited to our Ladies of Harley. There are geographically-oriented groups, to connect with other members nearby. It is easy to form additional groups.

The primary purpose of all this is to make it easy to communicate with other members about rides and riding. If you are thinking about doing an impromptu ride and would like some company, feel free to put it out there in one of the groups. Please keep the discuss focused on rides and riding, and other topics of general interest to chapter members. No religion or politics please, and keep it clean.
